The Balkans have often been perceived as a restless corner of Europe and many who delve into the underlying reasons behind the recent conflicts feel that the issues are too complex to understand.

From the spectacular setting of the Old Town, your knowledgeable guide will help to clarify exactly what happened. Learn about the historical background of the war, find out about the most common misconceptions and hear first-hand accounts of what it was like to live in a besieged city and some of the incomprehensible events that took place. There is a happier ending as you will also learn how everything got back to normal!

You will finish the tour a more enlightened visitor, with a richer knowledge of the more turbulent aspects of Dubrovnik's past, as well as its position in the context of the whole Balkan Peninsula.

Departure Time:

9:00 am to 9:00 pm daily (every 30 minutes)

Dubrovnik is a historic city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme south of Croatia, positioned at the terminal end of the Isthmus of Dubrovnik. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Adriatic, a seaport and the centre of Dubrovnik-Neretva county. Its population was 43,770 in 2001 down from 49,728 in 1991. In the 2001 census, 88.39% of its citizens declared themselves as Croats.

Since 1979, the historic centre of Dubrovnik has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

The prosperity of the city of Dubrovnik has always been based on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages, as the Republic of Dubrovnik, it became the only eastern Adriatic city-state to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Ragusa was one of the centres of the development of primarily the Croatian language and literature, home to many notable poets, playwrights, painters, mathematicians, physicists and other scholars.

Tour does not operate on January 1, December 24, 25, 31 or Easter day.
